Responding to Challenging Behavior
Challenging behavior can range from talking in class to situations where law enforcement may need to get involved. Thankfully, most of the disruptions that teachers must deal with are of the emergent or low-level kind. However, it is just this type of disruption that steals so much instructional time. Occasionally, there are escalated situations that require additional support from school personnel, and rarely, there are crisis situations for which we need to be prepared.
How effective are your current approaches?
In my training, participants learn:
*How to reclaim lost instructional time using our famous REFOCUS approach.
*How to respond when students talk out, defy requests for compliance, and ignore multiple warnings.
*How the whole school staff can support one another in the effort to maintain order and safety.
